Erasing the Stigma of Dementia
Although Alzheimer's disease has lately gotten
the most publicity, there are many types of
dementia. Vascular dementia tends to be related
to blood flow issues. Dementia can also occur
with Parkinson's disease. Whatever the cause of
dementia, there should be no more stigma
attached to the disease than arthritis or
cancer. However, like other mental illnesses,
dementia carries, for some families, an
undertone of shame.
